Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, I finished high school and enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. I spent 20 years in the Navy and saw many places, primarily in the Far East. I lived in Japan, Korea, the Philippines and also served in Vietnam. After retiring from the Navy at the age of 37 I returned to college full-time and finished my degree in Psychology. Since then I have worked as an Alcoholism counselor, a Protective Service Worker for Child Protective Services, and a real estate broker. I retired completely in 2012, made two trips to Nicaragua where I had an ex-pat friend and came close to moving there. But found it a bit too unstable and third-world for my liking. So instead, i sold my home in Oregon and bought a recreational vehicle, planning to travel the North American continent. But I soon realized that it wasn't much fun doing that by myself, which is true of many things. So returning to my long-standing dream of living in Latin American I began my research, and found that Colombia seemed to offer everything I was looking for. I arrived in Medellin on my exploratory trip in October of 2021 and fell immediately in love with your beautiful country. I still have much to see here, as I have not travelled out of the greater Medellin area yet. I knew from listening to other ex-pats that this was where I wanted to live permanently. I returned to the U.S. for the 3 months it took for me to either sell or give away virtually all of my belongings, and returned to Medellin in February 2022 with 3 large suitcases. That was all that remained of my old life. I thought Laureles would be my home until I discovered Sabaneta. This rapidly growing city still offers much of the feel of a small town, extremely friendly-people, and very importantly for me, lots of services for a disabled U.S. veteran. My spanish skills are still minimal, but I am working on it daily. I am determined to become fluent in your beautiful tongue and to integrate largely into your wonderful culture.
